As the sun sets on 2020 there is a quiet drive to reset and find balance.

The rocky unpacking of old beliefs and systems on a personal and collective level is still in progress. There is, however, an increasing awareness of new possibilities setting us up for an amazing new dawn. A time to own our strengths and resiliences, and broaden our sense of compassion for self, other and the world.

A Drive to Wellness

Personally, I thrive on a little structure in my life. Not too much, just sufficient to keep me on track without feeling restricted in my dreams or imagination. This allows me a sense of gentle balance between trust (letting go) whilst I pursue my big picture goal of multi-dimensional wellness.

Wellness is a term well-entrenched in our modern day parlance. It’s significance is amplified today, particularly in view of the year of loss, fear and illness that we’ve been party to.

What is wellness?

“The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health”.

If the concept of wellness is seen on a continuum of health, then this is how it might look:

How do we actively pursue wellness?

Firstly, understand that wellness is multi-dimensional and that these dimensions are areas of significance to you. Consider the image below and create your personal wellness image. You may want to add a dimension of Financial Wellness, or Community Wellness, for example.

Secondly, rate each dimension in your life today. Examine the dimension of Physical Wellness, for example. Are you in tip-top physical condition? What do you rate yourself out of 10? What components of Physical Wellness (e.g. fitness, stamina, weight, etc) need attention? Set goals for each component that will elevate the overall score towards 10.

The benefits of personal wellness

We are moving from a world where ‘big pharma’ or the government, or other institutions decide how we are to live our lives to one where we increasingly have the ability to actively manage and control our health and well-being.

There has never been a better time to reset our lives by focusing on wellness, resilience and prevention.

If you are ready to kickstart your personal Wellness Strategy, set up an appointment where together we will align your values and personal aspirations, establish your goals and priorities around the multi-dimensional areas of wellness, and guide you to an optimal sense of well-being.

Pick Harmony Over Agony

Someone who has good emotional self-regulation has the ability to keep their emotions in check. They can resist impulsive behaviors that might worsen their situation, and they can cheer themselves up when they’re feeling down.

Feedback

Thank you for all the patience you gave me as I slowly rediscovered myself. I have learned a lot during this time.

Thank you for all you have taught me. Your work has proved to me that psychology in practice can and really does make a difference in people’s lives, and mine in particular

Lynne has shown our family great support.

From the moment I met Lynne, she put me at ease and I felt completely comfortable sharing anything with her. Lynne is incredibly empathetic and insightful and was able to help me find the answers I needed to help myself. Lynne has a knack for making sense of your confused thinking and feelings and putting things into perspective. Even though I no longer see her regularly, when I’m troubled with something, I’ll still make an appointment to see her just to touch base, to re-centre my thoughts and to find a bit of clarity. She’s an incredible counselling psychologist that I would recommend to anyone.
